Veliko Tarnovo region
This region distinguishes itself for its unique location and climate. The fact is, that the city is approximately at equal distances from the four major Bulgarian cities ? Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and Bourgas, which makes it the right place to buy a house. The rich history and the exquisite architecture both of Veliko Turnovo and the other towns from the region quickly attracted not only tourists, but investors too. The city of Veliko Turnovo is situated in the central part of Bulgaria at the foot of the Stara Planina mountain. It is spread on historic three hills and their surroundings ? Tzarevetz, Trapezitza and Sveta Gora in the valley of the meandering Yantra river. It is an administrative centre and the capital of the second Bulgarian kingdom. The favourable climate, the abundance of cultural and historical monuments and the flourishing local crafts are all requisites favouring tourism. The medieval town is certainly the landmark of the city and one of the major tourist attractions. Spreading across the hills Tzarevetz, Trapezitza, Momina Krepost, Sveta Gora and the modern suburb Assenov, it clearly marks the two dominant fortresses of that time ? the ones of Tzarevetz and Trapezitza, and the so-called New City, which was formed between them. Veliko Turnovo is a great place for entertainment. The new films, the theatrical performances, the exhibitions, etc. make it a great place to live and to have fun. One of the landmarks of the region is the renowned village of Arbanassi, which is the cause of local pride and a must-see for tourists, sited on the plateau with the same name 4 km away from Veliko Turnovo. The monumental and unique local architecture, together with the beauty of its sights make it look like heaven on earth for many visitors. The sixteenth and seventeenth century churches and picturesque houses with lavish interiors, carvings and mural paintings are breathtaking and capture the interest of tourists and scholars alike. Some 11 km away from the old capital of Bulgaria lies the small town of Kilifarevo with its famous monastery. Veliko Turnovo offers an unforgettable walk through the history of Bulgaria for its residents and guests. The town of Elena is located in the southernmost parts of the Veliko Turnovo region, providing the water to other 7 towns due to its huge water reserves. Its surroundings are famous for the incredible landscape and rich flora and fauna and that is the reason there are two reservations around the town of Elena ? Byala reka and Haidushki chukar. This makes it popular with environmentalists and is boosting the local real estate market. The town of Svishtov, one of the oldest Bulgarian towns, situated at the Danubian coast, is also within the boundaries of the region. During its nineteen hundred years of existence it has gradually become the town, which it is nowadays ? a major port on the Danube with long commercial traditions. Its location is one of the most significant asset of the city, for it propels its economic development and at the same time provides inexpensive and quick access through Danube to almost entire Europe, thus becoming the preferred destination for a growing community of investors. Another town in the region is Suhindol. This tranquil town is not well developed, but the remnants from the settlements of Thracians, Romans and Slavs attract many visitors. The county is a perfect place for settlers, who are lovers of rural tourism, prefer quiet life amid superb scenery. The landmark of the town is the clock tower, finished in 1895, still kept in best condition and showing the exact time in the town of Suhindol. The unique position of both Veliko Turnovo and the whole region, together with their infrastructure determine their significance as a important administrative, cultural and economic centre in modern Bulgaria. |
