Gabrovo municipality is located in Northern Bulgaria, in Gabrovo micro region. The municipal centre is situated in the northern mountain-spurs of the middle parts of the Balkan, in the picturesque valley of Yantra River.
The Gabrovo Municipality is located in Central Northern Bulgaria, at the geographic center of the country and along the banks of the rivers Yantra, Sinkevitza, Panicharka, Zhalteshka and Lopushnitza. The earth formations of the region are extremely intersected and represent a number of small valleys, cut by gullies and ravines, narrow hills and rocky ridges with steep slopes.

The relief of the land is hilly, as shaped by the central Balkans and by the flowing of the Yantra River. Gabrovo is on average 392 meters above sea level with the lowest point located along the river valley of Lopushnitza and the highest point in Atovo Padalo (1,495 m), the natural springs of the Yantra River.
